25.01.2024

The composition competition organized by Fatih Municipality in memory of İsmail Dede Efendi and Tanburi Cemil Bey, two legendary names of Turkish music, was concluded.

Lecturer Semih Özdemir, from the Department of Turkish Music, was awarded in this prestigious competition by an important jury consisting of prominent names in the field of Turkish music such as Mehmet Güntekin, Hasan Esen, Fikret Karakaya, Münip Utandı, İhsan Özer, Fatih Salgar, Birol Yayla, Özata Ayan and Mustafa Çıpan. Özdemir's composition, a murabba beste in the makam of Acemkürdi, was awarded the third prize out of 305 works in the category of oral works announced in honor of Dede Efendi.

This award was presented with a meaningful prize, a notated edition of a work by Dede Efendi published more than 100 years ago by Darülelhan, the first official music school of Turkish music. Özdemir received his award from Fatih Salgar, one of the conductors of the Presidential Classical Turkish Music Choir. The award-winning work was performed for the first time by the instrumental and vocal artists of the Presidential Classical Turkish Music Choir and presented to art lovers.

We congratulate our Lecturer and wish his continued success.
